Phil Palmer & Dire Straits Legacy Rome interview

DSL

The Dire Straits Legends was born from the love and passion for the music of Dire Straits, and its mission is to bring that music to fans who have been starved of hearing it played live, for far too long.

Since the band played its last gig on the On Every Street tour in 1991/92, the musical genius that is Mark Knopfler prefers to leave the Dire Straits songs behind him and play his more recent songs from his solo career. We respect that – he’s moved on – but the fact is: the world misses Dire Straits!

The concept of the Dire Straits Legacy is to bring together old friends, members of Dire Straits who made those iconic records, so they can bring the music to those fans, and since We4Show became involved in 2013, the following members of Dire Straits have played with us: John Illsley, Phil Palmer, Alan Clark, Mel Collins, Jack Sonni, Danny Cummings, Pick Withers and Chris White.

A meeting in Milan in the summer of 2013 introduced We4Show to the band, an agency with a mission to produce and promote, with passion high level, quality music, and the first tour which had a line up of Phil Palmer, Pick Withers, Danny Cummings, Jack Sonni, Mel Collins, Marco Caviglia and Primiano Dibase, was an incredible success with five sold out gigs in Italy, as was the second when John Illsley and Steve Ferrone joined the band for 9 awesome theatre gigs and the final ceremony of the 97°Giro d’Italia when 20,000 happy people cheered the band.

And now, after many requests for the band to play in other countries and at festivals and international corporates, the latest incarnation is born: the Dire Straits Legacy!
