The Sugi DS496 is THE flagship model of the prestigious Japanese brand. An ultra-versatile guitar, it boasts the impressive quality of manufacture offered by Nick Sugimoto and his team.

This custom order model, unique in the world, is entirely handmade in the brand’s workshop. It represents the pinnacle of what Sugi can produce because of the exceptional attention to detail it enjoys and the incredible selection of essences used to make this exceptional piece. Here, no digital machine, no chain stains.

The handle is sculpted with gouge and plane, the body diverted manually, everything is done in the traditional way with perfect mastery. The Sugi DS496 is a 100% artisanal guitar. A special note for the fretting which is of insolant perfection.

This DS496 Custom Order has a unique selection of species. It is built around a semi-hollow Honduran mahogany body with a table in apple maple 5A (master grade) selected by us. The handle is made of an Aqua Timber maple piece cut more than 200 years ago and submerged for more than 75 years old. This exceptional piece brings superior stability and unique acoustic qualities while being durable.

The handle has a beautiful touch of Pale Moon ebony from southeast Asia. Equipped with Sugi Original LH-35 pickups, it also has hardware Gotoh and a Gotoh VG300 vibrato. This unique copy, customised by us, benefits from a custom color finish “Blue Grotto”.

SUGI GUITARS

Do you know what Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, George Benson, Steve Lukather, Mike Porcaro, Sam Porcaro, Phil Collen, Jaco Pastorius, Sting, Paul Gilbert and many other artists have in common? What connects all this beautiful world is in two words: Makoto Sugimoto.

A man of the shadows, Makoto is one of the most prolific master builders in the industry. His collaborations with the biggest brands are innumerable: Fender Custom Shop, Ibanez LA Custom Shop, Strandberg, Epiphone, Yamaha and many others. In his 35-year career, Makoto Sugimoto has written more than 1,500 engineering records for the manufacture of musical instruments.

His unique know-how and relentless attention to detail have greatly helped make Makoto – Nick – Sugimoto the luthier that the big brands call when they need to produce exceptional instruments, that it’s for renowned artists or for very exclusive limited series.
Makoto Sugimoto is also and above all, Sugi Guitars, founded in 2002 in Nagano, Japan. Makoto and his small team produce only 30 tons of instruments per month. At Sugi, no catalog, all guitars and bass are totally original because everything is made à la carte. The brand manufactures its instruments traditional way without CNC, but with a unique know-how.

The sleeves are fashioned with gouge, by hand, bodies diverted without digital machines, inlays are entirely done manually. Each piece of wood is selected on request according to the customer’s wishes or according to the inspiration of the moment. At Sugi, there are only Master Builts.

Guitars Rebellion is the brand’s exclusive representative in Europe. We really work hand in hand with the brand to offer you instruments fully customized and fully tailor-made. We select the wood species on site, with the team for all our guitars and accompany you throughout the ordering process to design the instrument of your dreams.
